Christmas became an unforgettable milestone for Karl-Anthony Towns and Jordyn Woods, who announced their engagement after nearly five years together.
The couple shared the news on Thursday, December 25, shortly after the New York Knicks narrowly defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 126–124 at Madison Square Garden. Later that day, Towns and Woods posted a joint announcement on Instagram, captioned “Marry Christmas 🎄❤️💍,” revealing that the NBA star had proposed during a romantic rooftop moment in New York City.
Photos from the proposal show Towns down on one knee at Overstory, a rooftop bar overlooking the city skyline. The intimate setting was decorated with candles and flowers, creating a private and celebratory atmosphere. Woods appeared visibly emotional as she accepted the ring, with the couple later celebrating the moment together.
For the special occasion, Woods wore a white, fluffy coat layered over a white dress, her hair styled in a sleek ponytail. Towns opted for a suede coat paired with black trousers, keeping his look refined and understated.
Although the two had known each other for years through mutual friends, their relationship officially began in 2020. They confirmed their romance publicly later that year and have since been open about how their friendship evolved into something deeper. Both have previously explained that they were close friends long before dating, a foundation they believe has been essential to their bond.
In past interviews and social media posts, Towns has spoken about how the COVID-19 pandemic became a turning point in their relationship, forcing them to decide whether they would remain friends or move forward as a couple. According to him, they chose to build something more, strengthening their connection during a period filled with uncertainty.
Woods has echoed those sentiments, often describing Towns as her best friend. She has said that knowing each other well before dating allowed them to navigate both good and difficult moments together, including the loss of Towns’ mother, Jacqueline, in April 2020.
The couple celebrated their fourth anniversary in May 2024, when Woods marked the occasion by writing a song for Towns titled Be with You, further highlighting the personal and creative ways they honor their relationship.
Their engagement marks a new chapter for the longtime couple, whose relationship has been shaped by friendship, trust, and shared experiences over several years.
