Safety Center

Welcome to LookBerry Safety Center. Below we provide tips and resources to help you stay safe when buying and selling online.

Secure your account

On LookBerry, we care about your account to stay secure. Here are several actions you can do to keep your information safe on and out off LookBerry:

  • Protect your information – update your browser

Software companies often release updates to keep your personal information secure, so you should install browser updates as soon as they become available. The older versions of web browsers might not be secure enough. If you are using an older browser version, you may need to update it before you can change your payment methods or make a purchase on LookBerry.

Download the latest version of your desktop browser:

Google Chrome

Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Internet Explorer

Opera

Safari

  • Create a User ID that is different from your email address.
  • Create a unique password that is easy for you to remember and enter, but difficult to guess, it may include a mix of upper and lower case letters and numbers.
  • Do not reuse your LookBerry user ID (or email) and password for other accounts - use a different username and password combination on every site you visit.
  • Change the password every 30-60 days.
  • Never tell your passwords.
  • Never store your passwords on your smartphone or tablet.
  • Deselect the "Keep me signed in" option if you are using a public computer or when you are not actively using the site. Simply closing your browser is not enough to maintain privacy.
  • Know who is around you and can follow what you do online. Protect your screen from other people.

Protect Your Privacy

Please read the LookBerry Privacy Policy for guidelines regarding the collection, use, disclosure, storage, and protection of your personal information. Read the tips below to know what you can do to protect your privacy when using social media or buying and selling online:

  • Don't talk too much about yourself. The more personal information you provide on publicly accessible sites, the easier it is for hackers and fraudsters to create compelling emails, text, or phone messages to trick you or commit scams.
  • Do not provide your email address, phone number, or other personal contact information outside of LookBerry.
  • Beware of online surveys, petitions, or surveys, which can be a ploy to collect your personal information.
  • Create an LookBerry User ID that's different from your email address and doesn't reveal your full name.

Secure your devices

Whichever type of device you use to shop online, follow these tips to keep your gadget and data safe:

  • Protect your PC with a strong password. Lock the screen with a password when you leave, even in your own house.
  • Protect your smartphone or tablet with a PIN or biometric method like a fingerprint.
  • Keep your smartphone, tablet, or laptop visible. Never leave your devices unattended in a public place.
  • Do not carry your smartphone in your back pocket or anywhere else where it is easy to steal.
  • Keep your antivirus, antispam and other security software up to date.
  • Avoid installing the software you don’t need or that comes from unverified sources.
  • Keep your software current. Install software updates and security fixes as they become available.
  • Choose a manual (not automatic) Wi-Fi connection option.
  • Disable hotspots on your phone when not needed.

Ignore urgent pop-ups that inform you that your devices are infected with a virus and you must click the link to fix the problem. Usually, these are traps to trick you into installing malware. Exit such messages and go to “Preferences” or “Options” to delete all Internet data from your device.

Secure Your Wireless Network

Follow these tips to keep your wireless network safe from unwanted attackers:

  • Password protects your router for your wireless network. If you do not secure your router, outsiders can gain access to your network and get your personal information.
  • Change your wireless network name and any preset passwords provided by the vendor, even if the name and password seem complicated. Visit the provider's website to find out how to do that.
  • Be sure to change the administrator password of your router immediately after setting up your wireless network. Use a strong password that is easy for you to remember but hard for anyone to guess.
  • Please update your router's software regularly.
  • Turn on encryption so that attackers cannot read your messages.

Protect yourself from fraud

Recognize fraud

Scammers will try to reach you where you least expect, including phone, email, or text message. Be wary of any unusual requests for your personal or financial information. Don't click on links that come from people that you don't know. The safest thing to do is simply delete these messages. Follow these tips to help you spot scams and protect yourself:

  • Email phishing is one of the most common ways people fall victim to financial fraud. Be suspicious of any email that promises a deal that is too good to be true, requires immediate action, includes attachments, links, or asks you to provide personal information. Never click on a link or open a file in an email if you are not sure you know the sender and that the message makes sense.
  • Be suspicious of any request to provide personal information or account information. LookBerry will never ask you to confirm your account password or personal information via email.
  • Never open or download files attached to emails that you do not expect, even if they appear to come from people or companies you know. These attachments can infect your system with malware that can steal your personal information, withdraw money from your accounts, buy items from your account, and send scam emails to all your email contacts.
  • Watch out for pop-ups that tell you that you need to verify your account information, click a link, or download software. If in doubt, close your browser and enter the company's URL.
  • Scammers will try to reach you in places you least expect them to, including text messaging. Don't click on links that come from people you don't know, and don't respond to them. The safest thing to do is to simply delete these messages.
  • Also, do not answer phone requests for account information. LookBerry will never ask you for your password or financial information over the phone.

Recognize fake emails

Spoofed emails often include the LookBerry logo and a spoofed LookBerry address on the "From" line (eg, "From: [email protected]"). Just because the email looks real does not mean it is. To report a fake email that looks like it came from LookBerry, send it as an attachment to [email protected].

Fake email

  • Fake emails often ask you to reply to a message with sensitive information.
  • Fake emails often use urgent and threatening language to update information, threatening to block the account.
  • Spoofed emails can contain attachments.
  • Spoofed emails often have a general greeting such as "Attention, LookBerry member."

LookBerry Real Email

  • We will not ask you to provide sensitive information by email.
  • LookBerry will not ask for personal information in the email.
  • Our emails never have attachments. If you receive an email with an attachment, please do not open it.
  • Our emails usually greet you with the name and surname that you have registered with your LookBerry account.

Recognize fake web pages

Fake emails often contain links to fake web pages that are designed to trick you into providing your financial information. Here are some tips to help you determine if a web address leads to a real LookBerry web page:

  • Beware of fake URLs (web addresses)
  • Even if the web address contains the word “LookBerry”, it might not be the LookBerry website. LookBerry web addresses contain "lookberry.com/". There will be nothing between period and “lookberry”, and there will be nothing after “.com” and the first slash (/).

Real addresses of LookBerry:

https://lookberry/pricing

https://lookberry/about-us

Spoofed LookBerry addresses:

signin-lookberry.com This address contains a dash (-) instead of a period (.)

[email protected]/ This address has an @ sign between the period and "lookberry".

[email protected]/ There is something between ".com" and a forward slash in this address.

  • Search for the "s" in "https" which means you are logging into a secure server. This is another way to protect your privacy.

When in doubt, start from the LookBerry home page.

If you want to log into LookBerry or enter personal information, the safest way is to start from the LookBerry home page. Enter www.lookberry.com into your browser and start from there.

Make sure you are on the real LookBerry login page.

Before you sign in to LookBerry, make sure you are indeed on our website by checking the URL.

Be safe when You Buy and Sell

  • Make sure you are logged in to the real LookBerry website.
  • Complete the payment with the correct payment method. Do not share your credit card or other financial information by email or text messages.
  • Don't be fooled by fraudulent emails sent directly from the merchant that something is wrong with your payment.
  • Don't be fooled by offers to get a better price by paying outside of LookBerry or using an unapproved payment method.
  • Due to the potential for fraud, we prevent buyers and sellers from making sales outside of LookBerry. These sales do not meet the criteria for feedback, contact requests, or LookBerry problem-solving services.
  • Avoid personal communication with sellers outside of LookBerry. Recording your messages will provide backup information in case you have problems purchasing or paying later.
  • Do not agree to unusual requests, such as additional shipping charges or other costs not previously indicated in the offer you accepted.
  • Do not provide unnecessary personal information to buyers or sellers. Never accept overpayment from buyers for items, especially if the buyer asks for the overpayment. Such requests are often part of a counterfeit cashier's check scheme.

For use by clients to report fraud or stolen goods to the police

Reporting fraud or theft to police.

If you have been tricked by an LookBerry seller, or if you suppose that you have found stolen goods, we strongly recommend that you contact your local police to report the incident. If the police open a case, an investigator will contact LookBerry; we will provide the information the police need to help them with the investigation.

Before going to the police

Your transaction may not involve a fraudulent or theft of goods, and you may be dealing with a seller who is slow in shipping. In such cases, we recommend that you try to fix the problem directly with the seller. If that doesn't work, there are several ways to quickly resolve your issue before contacting the police:

Is this a crime?

If you report your transaction to the police, they will decide if it should be investigated as a crime or as a civil dispute. If the police think that your case is not related to the criminal intent of the other party, they may be able to advise you to file a civil lawsuit to recover your damages.

How do I file a report with the police?

The easiest way to report a crime is to go to the local police station or call the local police operator on the emergency number. In most cases, your message can be received over the phone and you will be contacted later.

What kind of evidence do you need?

The police will require information from you, such as the date and time the crime was committed, and the name of the victim and suspect. If you've tried contacting a seller, you may have even exchanged names and addresses. This data will be useful to the police when trying to find another person and establish whether a crime has been committed. If you have exchanged emails with another person, please save them and print copies for referral to the police. If possible, please print any LookBerry web pages related to your transaction.

What's going to happen next?

We strongly believe in cooperation with the police and other government agencies to ensure the safety of our community. If the police feel that an investigation is necessary, they may come to us for evidence to support the investigation. We strive to make LookBerry a safe place to shop, will always assist with criminal investigations and, in accordance with our <a href="/legal/privacy">Privacy Policy</a>, duly provide evidence to law enforcement and, if necessary, testify in court.

Will anyone be arrested and/or indicted?

If you report a crime, you must be prepared that no matter how well you fall behind in your position, the police may still refuse to investigate further. A strong decisive factor is often whether the costs of the investigation are commensurate with the offense committed. This could mean that if the financial loss is relatively small, a lengthy investigation is unlikely.

How does LookBerry help?
