Britney Spears Speaks Out Sharply After Family Christmas

Britney Spears has shared a pointed message on social media following news that several members of her family, including her son Preston and her mother Lynne, spent Christmas in Louisiana with her sister Jamie Lynn Spears.

The 44-year-old singer posted to Instagram on Sunday, Dec. 28, sharing a photo of a decorated Christmas tree alongside a caption that appeared to address her family’s holiday gathering with noticeable sarcasm.

“Merry late Christmas to my beautiful family who have never disrespected me, harmed me, ever done anything completely unacceptable or caused unbelievable trauma, the kind you can’t fix…,” she wrote. “To my dear sweet innocent family … so so sorry I was busy this Christmas but I will definitely show up and surprise you soon … I can't wait.”

She ended her message by addressing Jamie Lynn’s 7-year-old daughter Ivey, writing, “I just want to hold you, my love … Godspeed, friends.”

During the holidays, Britney spent Christmas with her younger son Jayden, 19, whom she shares with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

"Britney had a fun time celebrating Christmas with Jayden — it's been such a special holiday," the source said.

Her older son Preston, 20, spent the holiday with his grandmother Lynne, aunt Jamie Lynn, and Jamie Lynn’s daughters Maddie, 17, and Ivey. The family gathering was shared publicly through a photo posted by Jamie Lynn on Instagram.

Britney has previously spoken about her complex emotions regarding her family relationships, including in her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me, where she reflected on the challenges and emotional conflicts that have shaped those bonds.

In the book, the singer said her “heart goes out” to Jamie Lynn for growing up in her shadow and for being a child of divorce.
“She will always be my sister, and I love her and her beautiful family. I’m working to feel more compassion than anger toward her, and toward everyone who I feel has wronged me. It’s not easy,” Britney wrote.

Jamie Lynn has also addressed the situation in the past, stating in 2022 that she’d “only ever tried to be helpful” when it came to Britney’s conservatorship.

Despite ongoing tension, Britney and her mother reunited for the singer’s birthday in 2023. At the time, it was reported that while Britney was “still hurt, because she feels like her mom could have done more to help her,” Lynne was “really making an effort to be in Britney’s life.”

More recently, Federline revealed that Britney had reconnected with both of her sons following the release of his memoir You Thought You Knew.

“They absolutely love their mom, right? I mean, they always, always have, always will,” he said on Talk Shop Live. "It's instilled in them. And I've always wanted for them to have a connection with their mom, the way I have with my mom."
