Three hairstylists from Waco, Texas, have proved that determination and creativity can take you anywhere — even to the runways of Paris Fashion Week. Returning home from France, they carried more than luggage; they brought back inspiration and pride.
A Dream Years in the Making
For the talented women of My Salon & Barbershop, this was their second Paris Fashion Week appearance. They’ve also styled models at New York Fashion Week for three consecutive years.
“We bring back something different every time we go,” said stylist Marybel Yepez.
Alongside Jessica Gudino and Yamilex Farjardo, Marybel spent the week backstage at multiple shows, including a Hair Couture event known for its theatrical styles and elaborate looks.
Hair as a Form of Expression
“Ever since I was young, I wanted to do hair,” said Yamilex. “I never imagined I’d be in Paris for Fashion Week.”
Each stylist described the experience as transformative — turning hair into art. “It’s bringing creativity to life,” said Marybel. “When your model walks out first, you know you did your job well.”
Jessica added, “Hair couture is like theater — dramatic, expressive. We learned so many new techniques.”
From Waco High to Global Runways
For Jessica Gudino, this journey was especially personal. She graduated from Waco High School at 16, learned English while building her career, and became an educator in a major beauty company.
“I never thought anyone would listen to someone who didn’t speak English,” she said. “But I kept setting goals. Fashion Week came into my life in 2021 — and changed everything.”
Hard Work, Beautiful Results
Now represented by an agency, the trio will return to New York Fashion Week in February 2026.
“It didn’t happen overnight,” said Marybel. “After fifteen years in the business, it’s taken time, but hard work always pays off. Keep pushing — and you’ll get there.”
