Jinger Duggar has revealed why she hadn’t spent Christmas with her family for almost nine years — and why this holiday season marked a meaningful change.
In a recent interview, the former Counting On star explained that since getting married, she and her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, traditionally spent Christmas Day with his side of the family. According to Duggar, it was the only time of year when Vuolo’s relatives were able to gather together, making the decision a practical and intentional one rather than a reflection of family conflict.
Duggar emphasized that despite missing Christmas celebrations at her childhood home in Arkansas, she remained close to her family and continued to see them during weddings, holidays, and other major events. However, Christmas Day itself was always reserved for her husband’s family traditions.
This year, the couple decided to do something different. For the first time in nearly a decade, Duggar returned home for Christmas, bringing her children along to experience the large family celebration she grew up with. She shared that the decision was driven by a desire for her kids to understand her upbringing and take part in long-standing holiday customs.
Duggar recalled the lively atmosphere of Christmas mornings in her family home, where gift-opening traditions varied from year to year — sometimes everyone opened presents at once, while other years followed an orderly, age-based system.

Reflecting on the experience, Duggar described the visit as meaningful and nostalgic, offering her children a glimpse into her past while reconnecting with traditions she hadn’t experienced in years.
The holiday marked a full-circle moment for Duggar, blending her present family life with the traditions of her childhood after nearly a decade away.
