Austin’s beloved vintage shop Prototype Vintage, founded in 2005 on South Congress, is entering a new era. To celebrate its twentieth anniversary, the brand is opening a second store in the vibrant North Loop neighbourhood.
A place with personal roots
Co-owners Audrie San Miguel and Emily Larson, longtime friends and business partners, chose the new site at 123 E North Loop because of its personal significance: it was here that they first met at a block party 26 years ago. They describe the area as one of the few truly local shopping districts still left in Austin.
Grand opening and community spirit
The new store is set to open on December 6 with a festive launch featuring a DJ, drinks, treats and door prizes. The space formerly housed a home-appliance store and will now be transformed into a dedicated vintage fashion destination.
Keeping the independent spirit alive
San Miguel emphasises that the aim is to maintain the independent, community-driven vibe of the North Loop strip. She draws on her early retail experience at the nearby Room Service Vintage — a store operating since 1981 — and says the new location honours that legacy.
