Longchamp Adds a British Twist to French Elegance

For decades, Longchamp has embodied Parisian sophistication. Its iconic Le Pliage tote, with soft leather details and durable canvas, has become a global symbol of effortless French chic.

But this fall, the heritage house looks to Britain for inspiration. Creative director Sophie Delafontaine describes the new Gloverall collaboration as “a love letter to savoir-faire” — a meeting of two worlds that share a passion for craftsmanship, design, and timelessness.

Gloverall, a British icon renowned for its duffle coats since the 1950s, has dressed everyone from Olympic athletes to rock legends like Oasis. Together, the two labels fuse French refinement with English practicality.

A Capsule Rooted in Heritage

The limited-edition collection features a duffle coat available in nutmeg yellow and navy blue, alongside a medium tote bag in matching hues. Each design balances function and artistry.

The signature detail? A bamboo-shaped toggle clasp — Longchamp’s hallmark, reimagined from its Le Roseau line. The motif traces its origins back over 30 years, inspired by Gloverall’s own wooden duffle toggles — now brought full circle in this collaboration.

Delafontaine explains: “Both Longchamp and Gloverall have heritage at their core — one French, one British — united by craftsmanship and timeless design.”

London Preview: French Warmth Meets British Wool

Ahead of the official launch, Harper’s Bazaar previewed the collection in London. The coat impressed with its thick wool, relaxed cut, and functional details: large flap pockets, tartan lining, and a roomy hood. Despite its weight, the piece feels cozy — a testament to quality tailoring.

The design carries a charming Paddington Bear spirit: undeniably British, slightly nostalgic, yet modern and wearable. For Delafontaine, the collection embodies Longchamp’s next evolution — staying loyal to its Parisian roots while embracing the best of British tradition.
